Litchfield GTR Engine Upgrades
Since early 2008 we have been working on a range of performance upgrades for the latest Nissan GTR. We have upgraded a large number of cars with everything from a simple Y-pipe, all the way to 700bhp+ turbo conversions.
Engine Power Upgrades
Below is a number of key power upgrade stages designed to show the sort of changes required to reach different power levels. However we offer a bi-spoke service which we can tailor to your personal requirements. Please feel free to contact with any questions you have.
Stage 1 - 550bhp Litchfield Power Upgrade
Our Stage 1 upgrade brings out the full benefit of the Y-pipe and incorporates a recalibration of the GTRs engine management system. This recalibration will release an extra 60-70bhp and transform the way the GTR performs without pushing the limits of Nissans original engine parameters.
The Stage 1 Power upgrade includes:
- Milltek Y-Pipe
- Improved boost control with custom Ecutek code
- Revised ignition control, Variable Valve timing and Fuel maps
- Reduced fuel consumption (especially on partial throttle conditions)
- Increase in both power and torque across the whole rev range
The Stage 1 package costs £899 fitted inc. VAT
Stage 2 - 575bhp Litchfield Power Upgrade
Our Stage 2 upgrade features the Y-pipe and the rest of Milltek’s performance exhaust system which replaces the restrictive standard rear silencer. To further improve the engines breathing the paper intake filters are replaced with free flowing Pipercross units. These filters not only aid performance but are also washable to insure consistent performance over time.
Combined with our unique ECU recalibration this upgrade lifts performance to an incredible 575bhp. The Stage 2 upgrade is our most popular upgrade after the initial Y-pipe.
The Stage 2 Power upgrade includes:
- Pipercross performance Air filters
- Milltek Y-Pipe Milltek rear exhaust system
- Exhaust back pressure reduced by over 37%
- Improved boost control with custom Ecutek code
- Revised ignition control, Variable Valve timing and Fuel maps
- Reduced fuel consumption (especially on partial throttle conditions)
- Increase in both power and torque across the whole rev range
The Stage 2 package costs £2,461 fitted inc. VAT
Stage 3 - 585bhp Litchfield Power Upgrade
Our Stage 3 upgrade uses Forge’s Carbon intake kit which we helped design. This kit features large capacity cone filters which are placed in the engine bay inside attractive Carbon fibre cylinders. The Carbon cylinders have intake tubes which receive cold air from behind the front bumper. Utilising the space within the engine bays allows for larger filters to be installed compared to using the area behind the front bumper. The intake kits also have a larger diameter CNC machined MAF housing. This allows for more ECU map resolution at higher power levels where the smaller OEM housing would not be able to continued detailed measurement.
Like the Stage 2 upgrade it also features the Milltek Y-pipe, exhaust system and a new ECU calibration for the larger intakes.

- Carbon fibre Cone intake kit with larger MAF housing
- Milltek Y-Pipe
- Milltek rear exhaust system
- Exhaust back pressure reduced by over 37%

- Reduced fuel consumption (especially on partial throttle conditions)

The Stage 3 package costs £2,918 fitted inc. VAT
Stage 4 - 610bhp Litchfield Power Upgrade
The Stage 4 adds the Millteks hand fabricated Stainless steel downpipes. The downpipes are purposely over engineered to insure the best possible performance and reliability. Each down pipe features a large collector to insure the best possible gas flow and features carefully TIG welded and finished shaping. The downpipes themselves are made from very durable 321 stainless with the focus on long term reliability, especially important on the GTR when working on the turbo area is so time consuming.
The down pipes are match up to Millteks Y-pipe and rear silencers. Both are designed to free flowing whilst maintaining a sensible noise level.
We also install stronger Forge Actuators which help the standard turbos maintain higher boost pressures.
At power levels over 585bhp the standard fuel injectors will be at 100% duty so the stage 4 kit features our larger 920cc injectors along with our twin upgraded fuel pumps to insure the engine receives ample fuel supply.

The Stage 4 package costs £5,950 fitted inc. VAT
Stage 5 - 650+bhp Litchfield Power Upgrade
Stage 5 is where things get really exciting! This stage is includes new improved turbo designs. The most popular option is to run the hybrid VF34 ball bearing core with our larger billet compressor wheel. This unit is also produced by IHI, like the standard turbos, meaning the standard oil and water lines can be retained. We have also performed a number of larger Garrett turbo conversions which we can discuss with each customer to make sure we get the ideal match.
Along with the larger turbos we recommend switching to an improved intercooler design from Forge Motorsport. Testing has shown that higher power levels the standard intercoolers can become overwhelmed. After considerable trials, we found that the most efficient design for the GTR was a core of tube and fin design, and along with an overall increase in dimensions we have been able to improve the cooling ability and reduce the pressure loss across when compared to stock intercoolers.

GT-R Engine management upgrades
Key to our performance upgrades is our close work with Engine management specialists and long term partners, ECUTEK.
In early 2008 Litchfield provided ECUTEK with a GTR for their ECU development work. Detailed testing has been continuous with the car on a variety of dynos including ECUTEK’s state of the art R&& facility, road and circuit testing including the famous Nurburgring. ECUTEK are the world leaders in ECU program with solutions provided to the aftermarket and manufactures including Mitsubishi, Subaru UK and Prodrive to name just a few.
They have been able to provide Litchfield with their advanced software which has enabled us tune the GTR’s ECU to provide fantastic improvements in performance.
